The NY Press discusses residential development in Park Slope and a new indicator of gentrification: The Microbrew Beer/Inflatable Rat Index. The inflatable rat marks the presence of union workers handing out flyers warning that "Market-rate housing is coming," and the microbrews reflect the changing tastes of the clientele. ("It used to be Budweiser.") It should be noted that the Rat/Microbrew Index bears a slight correlation to the ever-reliable trucker-hats-with-irony vs. trucker-hats-worn-without-irony standard ratio of gentrification.
