    Timesian Verbs

Jack Shafer publishes verbs made from the names of New York Times editors and reporters. (Our favorite, taken from the legendary NYT spokesbot: "To Mathis: To use active, vigorous language to say nothing in particular.")

Of course, we've been quite fond of the verb "To Shafer: To complain about shitty behavior identical to that which one exhibits." But never mind:

To Rich: To persuade your readers of what they already know.
    Frank Rich, associate editor

To Landman: To use gasoline to douse a fire.
    Jonathan Landman, assistant managing editor

To Mathis: To use active, vigorous language to say nothing in particular.
Catherine J. Mathis, vice president, corporate communications
