In what we presume is not an April Fool's joke, executive editor Michael Goodwin is said to be out at the NY Daily News. Reportedly, he'll stay on as an "editorial columnist," which is usually code for all sorts of things, ranging from "we can't fire you" to "you suck at your job but we really like you" to "No don't quit even though you're not going to get promoted." (Goodwin had long aspired to run the tabloid; this March, as editor-in-chief Edward Kosner was supposed to officially leave the DN, rumors originally had it that Goodwin would be named to the top dog spot. Guess not.)

[Update: Goodwin's twice-weekly column will begin in May. According to spies in the Daily News empire, "spontaneous choreographed dance has broken out in the newsroom."]
