Curbed points out that Manhattan must always have a contemporary architect to chew up and spit out. Frank Gehry is on the outs until he finishes the Diller Empire HQ in West Chelsea, Daniel Libeskind is definitely out, but he'll be back, and Zaha Hadid still only has one building in North America, and since she won't have her daddy, former NYT architecture critic Herbert Muschamp, around any more... So, by elimination, we must now set our evil, intemperate sights on Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.
Calatrava designed the transportation hub at the WTC, and is working on something fancy-schmancy for the Olympics. So how long until Calatrava gets hated on? Curbed gives him 194 days until "media immolation." No doubt: January 2005 will find Calatrava getting cut down as an effete, intellectual snob. And worse — European! Eww! And he uses big words!
