    More On 'Cargo': The Worst Place To Work In Manhattan?

    I always thought that working at Cargo, the men's gear mag, would be like hanging out in a frat all day — kegstands, nudie pics in the cubicles, laughter, rolling in late... Quite the contrary. We heard yesterday that three staffers fled in horror recently, and now, says one spy, "Word on the street about Cargo is: Management is brutal. I also hear that the all-male mag is doing a feature on crying at work for Sept/Oct." I guess they're researching that personally? Says another spy:

    As near as I can tell, *everyone* there is miserable miserable (not just the three who quit.) Ariel [Foxman, editor] is supposed to be a big meany, the creative director is a nightmare, and the hours have been absurd. Funny thing is, the production director (who, I should mention, was previous fired rather unceremoniously from his job at Esquire) seems to LOVE it there. And everyone thinks he's perfectly lovely, but insane to love his job as much as he does. At least one of the people who left doesn't even have another job. They just hated it that much...
