1. The kind souls at Prefix Magazine have compiled a list of all the free to semi-free music shows in New York City this summer. Go on and bookmark the page, you cheap bastards. Tonight s offering? Montreal-ers The Stills, playing at Battery Park s Castle Clinton at 7:00 p.m. As with all things free, however, there is a snag: you need a ticket to get in, and to get a ticket, you must wait in line starting at 5:00 p.m.
2. Ever sit at home on the threadbare couch you stole out of your neighbor's trash on a Thursday night, transfixed to some god-awful TV show with a live audience, and wonder to yourself, "watching this is one thing — I have no life. But who are the sorry fucks who actually go to the taping?" Head to Studio 7 on 733 11th Avenue to get free tickets to a suspiciously nondescript "reality game show to air on the WB this summer."
3. Evidently, a Harvard degree didn t guarantee Jacob Slichter, drummer for the seminal rock group Semisonic, exquisite song writing ability (remember "Closing Time"?), but it did land him a book deal. He signs copies of his opus, "So You Wanna be a Rock and Roll Star" at the Park Slope Barnes and Noble at 7:30 tonight.
