Tonight, as everyone knows, is Tom Brokaw's last half hour in his NBC Nightly News chair, an event being honored with a mini orgy of farewell puff pieces not seen since, well, probably since Seinfeld went off the air.
Locally, we get a heavily illustrated two-page spread from The Daily News, an interesting little chart from The Times (they already did their 3,000-plus word Brokaw piece two weeks ago), and this intriguing quote from The New York Post: "I'm hoping to go off the air on a graceful note, I'm going to say something at the end to the audience.."
Personally, we think he should just end the episode with three minutes of 'graceful' silence, like on this poignant Real Media clip found on actor/satirist Harry Shearer's website.
Sigh. Tom says everything without saying a word.
