We have no idea if this is true — in fact, when we checked with our friend clerking in the Southern District, she hadn't heard anything about it — but, still, it's too juicy to pass up:

I work for a federal district court judge in NYC. Several judges in the courthouse (including the one I work for) have received phone calls this afternoon from staff at the David Letterman show asking them to perform a "last-minute" wedding ceremony. A quick web search shows Cruise to be a guest on tonight's taping. Coincidence? Is Letterman just going to marry a couple on the street, or pull some other silly prank? I think not. The lucky couple must be Cruise and Holmes.

"Lucky" isn't quite the word we'd use, but sure.
