On Monday, as we nursed our Academy Awards hangover with some therapeutic A-list mockery, we couldn't help but notice that Graydon Carter chose an interesting ensemble for his Vanity Fair party. Of those stunning slacks, a reader writes:

Graydon Carter is Canadian, and therefore most likely of Scot ancestry (?). The pants are not just plaid, they are the Black Watch tartan. The motto of the Black Watch is "Nemo me impune lacessit" (no one attacks me with impunity).

On his big night and at his big party, we can totally understand the message behind Graydon's pants. Unfortunately, wearing Skidz renders that a moot point.
