We kind of hoped that the full version of Sunday's NYT interview with Viacom CEO Sumner Redstone would feature dialogue like "I'm gonna impale Les Moonves on the ambisexual figurehead of Barry Diller's yacht!" or something very financial-pirate like that. Sadly, the big boss just disses former second-in-command Frank Biondi, proclaims Viacom the victim of Janet Jackson's girl-parts, and promises us the long-rumored gay TV network. Emphasis ours:
[A.] The gay channel was held up because it would cost thirty million dollars.
Q. It was held up by Mel [Karmazin, recently departed COO]?
A. Well, let s just — I don't want to say that. Just say it was held up. It was not on the front burner because it cost thirty million dollars. This is a channel that we believe will be worth billions in the future. The demographic is enormous. The people spend tons of money, I mean, that community.
Indeed. So happy gay pride week, you money-secreting gays with your enormous "demographics."
A Succession Plan. Well, Almost. [NYT]
