Shock, awe: In an unannounced appearance yesterday, Britney Spears confirmed her pregnancy to David Letterman (only marginally better than a press conference). This finally and thankfully puts an end to rampant speculation that she was simply fat.

The big news came early into her segment (and was confirmed again at the end) when Britney said, "Don't worry, David, it's not yours." Letterman responded, "I think that's good news for both of us." Well, maybe good news for Letterman — for Britney, it means she intends to keep her pet husband for a bit longer.
