Only three things keep this from being the ultimate Slate article of all time:

1) Headline fails to include question.
2) Doesn't challenge conventional wisdom about bringing snakes on planes.
3) Lacks Christopher Hitchens' call for liberation of snakes, labeling of anyone who disagrees "objectively pro-cage."
