Last night at a fundraiser for Republican John Faso (apparently there's a guy running against Eliot Spitzer for governor; who knew?), a, let's be charitable here, crazy old woman climbed on the stage and began to read a speech about 9/11. Former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani was on hand to defuse the situation. The News' Ben Smith notes that "whatever else you think of Rudy Giuliani, he's really a master when it comes to the lunatics, who oddly seem to bring out his public empathy like nothing else."
Here's a collection of Rudy's Greatest Empathetic Hits from a few years back. Our personal favorite was a response to someone who called into the mayor's radio show to complain about the city's ban on ferrets (remember when that was the big crisis?):
There is something deranged about you ... this excessive concern with little weasels is a sickness ... you should go consult a psychologist or a psychiatrist with this excessive concern, how you are devoting your life to weasels. You need somebody to help you. There are people in this city and in this world that need a lot of help. Something has gone wrong with you.
There's a whole page of them; we're sure you'll find one you like just as much.
