Bambi Francisco, the TV anchor turned internet reporter, is hoping to leave CBS MarketWatch to found her own internet startup. She's said to be in discussions with investors, including Peter Thiel, formerly of PayPal, on a video pitch service. The idea is that entrepreneurs would record a short summary of their startup's strategy, allowing venture capitalist to winnow the field before taking an actual meeting. Not a terrible idea. But let me put it this way: when one meets the internet reporter, it comes as no surprise that her name is Bambi. She's attractive, sweet, deerlike — and an unlikely entrepreneur. Unlikely, were this not the late, florid stage of the internet cycle, in which even the improbable becomes commonplace.
