Ah, Second Life may indeed have a revenue model. The overhyped virtual world is generating publicity, and a little advertising revenue, with some lame marketing exercises, like NBC Universal's holiday celebration last week. The marketers will eventually discover that their efforts are generating more ridicule than press coverage, but Second Life, which raised $11m earlier this year from Benchmark Capital and other investors, can always sell sexual accessories. A games reviewer, keen to explore the virtual world's red light district, discovers: "If you want a male appendage, you've got to buy one!"
