Here's a nugget from Bloomberg's excellent profile of Peter Thiel, the Paypal founder now recast as investing genius. It's reasonably common knowledge that Peter Thiel and his acolytes were troublemaking libertarians back at Stanford University in the 1980s, when they stood out against the prevailing political correctness of the time. Less well-known is quite how much trouble they provoked: Keith Rabois, a close friend of Thiel, now VP of marketing at LinkedIn, was "hounded" out of Stanford after an experiment in free speech outside a lecturer's home. By experiment, I mean the chant: "Faggot! Faggot! Hope you die of AIDS."
