Hipsters and being heavy into food seem mutually exclusive. Shouldn't hipsters be emaciated? Plus, an appreciation of the finer points of gastronomy usually conjures a constellation of bourgeois values inherently at odds with the reduced-class-consciousness of your average boho. Of course, if they wanted, they could apportion a small amount of their allowance on eating out as opposed to buying $250 Acne Jeans. Thankfully, due to a recent surge of affordable and hip options, that choice never needs must be made.
Whisk and Ladle, as chronicled in these pages, is a $40 underground dinner club in Williamsburg with good food and little to no epicene pretension and San Francisco's Chowdown combines a disc jockey, a club popular with the kiddos and one of New York's top chefs.
The Chowdown is monthly part radio show, part dinner party. The inaugural New York event on April 10th, features Joey Campanaro, the chef behind The Little Owl, taking over the perennially hip club APT. Music is courtesy of Brennan Green and tix, available through the website, are $40. Attend if you dare.
