Sandy Weill is weaning himself off flying private, according to a new book harvested in Page Six today. The shy kid from Bensonhurst, who opened his firm on Wall Street in 1960 with some guys who would later all become multi-millionaires and end up as theater producers (Roger Berlind) or newspaper publishers (Arthur Carter), took to the good life with a bang, spending the hell out of Citicorp-then-Citibank-then-Citigroup-then-Citi-or-whatever's perks. This is crazy. The retired years are exactly when you want to be flying private and using one of your old company's planes. Do the elderly really need to be getting pushed through security at JFK instead of being delivered onto the tarmac at Teterboro? Sandy should reconsider—what kind of role model is he for the hedge fund kids now?
