"In a sample of 314 tenth-graders in a wealthy suburban community, the rate of 'clinically significant anxiety' was 5 to 9 percent higher than the national average, and among girls, the rate of 'clinically significant depression' was three times the national norm. Drug use exceeded not just national averages but that of low-income high-school kids she followed in a parallel study." [NYM]

Well duh. How are low-income high-school kids supposed to compete with kids who can afford many more, and more expensive, drugs?
Do they make Xanax Teen Formula, like Midol?
One of the things that constantly amazes/depresses me about New York is that multimillionaires (and their families) are actually numerous enough that they are worth catering to. Odd enough in itself, this means I have to walk past their ads for $800 watches and $6 million condos and $5,000 dresses and I can't be all "Who can afford that?" because really A BUNCH of people can and they live in the same city as me, and it makes me sad.

This wouldn't surprise anyone who went to a liberal arts college.
@Shinjukuace: I'm a sophomore at a liberal arts college and, come exam time, the atrium in the library becomes an open-air auction for Adderall, Concerta, and Dexedrine.
