Internet sensation Ron Paul beat former New York Commandant Rudy Giuliani in last night's Michigan primary. In fact, the government-hating congressman received more than twice as many votes as America's Mayor. Paul also beat Giuliani in Iowa and beat Fred "Die Harder" Thompson in New Hampshire. Also he has a goddamn blimp. All hail Ron Paul! Digg this post! Let's elect the internet! Ron Paul/Corey Delaney '08! [LATimes]

I am jazzed and alive.
Ron Paul is like an impression of Will Forte's positively awful impression of George W. Bush.
Ru Paul Buries It in Rudy
No, I won't stop smiling. My teeth are famous.
Yes, but is he gentleman enough to offer the blimp to MoDo when she has stomach flu?
@Tammany_Fall:
Sure he would, since she's not black, Jewish or gay.
The more I read about this guy the scarier he sounds... DO NOT WANT!
ron/paul was an inside job!!!
@meerkat: Well it's okay cause I have a better chance to receive the Republican nomination for President then Paul does.
@meerkat: Tell me about it! I was initially intrigued by Paul when he first popped up on my radar but after some initial digging - YIKES! I'd sooner vote for Rudy than this guy.
That Liz is pure gold with a pure gold icing. I'd like to marry her.
@meerkat: Ron Paul continues to hoodwink America with his "Return to the Gold Standard" campaign promise, however I suspect most Americans aren't familiar with some of the other things about this guy.
@bittergreen:
I know, and I can't believe it hasn't gotten wider coverage. It's not a good excuse that he's so far behind that it doesn't matter... the press finds plenty of opportunities to talk about him in glowing terms.
As the owner of a struggling wire coathanger factory in New Jersey, I wholeheartedly endorse the candidacy of Ron Paul.
Everyone keeps talking about the mysterious past of Ron Paul, but I don't see any specifics. Ron Paul remains the best candidate in either party.
@Johnny_boy: Check out Wonkette. They have links to several really nasty racist pamphlets his supporters put out when he was running for Congress in Texas.
He is clearly one of the most enlightened thinkers of the 19th century.

@Johnny_boy: Everyone keeps talking about how great Ron Paul is, but I don't see any specifics. Ron Paul remains the best candidate in either party.
/irony
@Johnny_boy:
- He is extremely "pro-life". To the point where frozen embryos are considered "lives".
- Against the regulatory monetary policy and the Federal Reserve.
- Against Taxes. His answer: Get rid of spending, abolish the IRS.
The last two are "core libertarian" positions. But seeing as there was absolutely no interest in President George W. Bush's relatively tame attempt at a partial privitization of Social Security, I doubt either of the latter two are going to go over big with the general populace.
We can't do worse than Bush. Ron Paul is holding his opponents feet to the fire and they are starting to feel a little warm. A full out, no holds barred public debate, everybody with equal time and exposure with RP, would turn them to ash. Dems, Repubs, and the media won't let that happen. Playing field is far from level.
Who wouldda thunk that Ron Paul and Fred Thompson would run ahead of Rudy in Michigan? Only a few months ago, Rudy was the runaway front runner, and the nomination was all but assured. Guess the little matter of actual voting was overlooked. Let the peeps speak!
@Pnelope:
And who wouldda thunk the Michiganders would get behind their hometown lunkhead? Do you think they really believe he's going to revive the US auto business?
@eddiefu: i.e. Vote for Paul: We can't do worse than Bush. But we can try anyway.
@bittergreen:
so far, neither party has put up anybody equal or better than Ron Paul. Paul's past is cleaner and more consistent (voting) than the others combined; what you see is what you get.
@eddiefu:
No. What most people HAVEN'T yet seen is what we'd get. That's a frightening thought.
@meerkat: What is it the people haven't seen yet? If there was dirt, it would have surfaced just like the other candidates dirt. I don't think anybody has anything on Ron Paul.
Also, his voting record is in step with the Constitution every-time.

You don't believe all that crap do you? James Kirchick
has the wrong Ron Paul or he is delusional. Upgrade your reading material. @meerkat:
@eddiefu:
It's easy to dismiss what you disagree with. Chances are there aren't 2 Ron Paul's from Texas who are in national politics. What do you have that contradicts the evidence in the article?
Read the first sentence of James Kirchick's alleged article and tell me he isn't stereotyping critics of the bush admin.. I've been a critic of George Bush since before his first day in office.
The rest of the article is misleading and only half-truths. Ron Paul, unfortunately for the others, is for the people. R@meerkat:
@eddiefu: Cause the people demand a strict interpretation of the constitution in which Airlines determine whether passengers can carry firearms, and the Federal Government right to practice monetary policy is not strictly enshrined, and therefore from a strict constitutionalist point of view, forbidden.
This indeed the viewpoint of all citizens of the United States. Or even a majority. Or even the 6 or 7% of the votes in the republican primaries and caucuses that he is receiving.
@eddiefu:
Kirchick's use of cliches is beside the point. Either Paul wrote/okayed those newesletters, or he allowed them to go out under his name without knowing what they said (nice choice). Which is it?
@eddiefu:
Did you know that 9/11 was an inside job too.

...seriously shut up.
