As the theatre dies a slow death from neglect, it's always nice to see a sign that the great old Art isn't going without a fight. One such sign, Passing Strange, the rock opera/travelogue/interactive concert experience that graced the downtown Public last summer, is getting a Broadway run this year. It's very refreshing to see a wild, weird, and thoroughly unique show like this being opened up, at considerable financial risk to its backers, to a (hopefully) wider audience. Looks like the whole original cast is intact, too. It's unlike anything I've ever seen, and will hopefully change the American musical in the ways the critics said the over-hyped Spring Awakening would. Highly recommended. OK, dork-out over.
