Earlier I wrote about Tim Gunn's appearance at the 92nd St. Y last night. Like I said, he was delightful and informative, but unfortunately I didn't record or tape anything (I don't think I was allowed?) Luckily, the Y taped it, and posted a segment on YouTube. It ought to give you an indication of what a wonderful raconteur the silver fox really is. Tim talking about his childhood and J. Edgar Hoover dressing in drag, among other things, after the jump.

Having a three way with Anderson Cooper and Tim Gunn is the closest you can get to time machine-related sexcapades.
A lovely man. Mrs. Koala325 and I thought about going, but we were afraid we might be disappointed, like, what if he turns out to be an asshole! Of course, he's not that way at all. Now we're just hoping that he could somehow come to our apartment (without Veronica Webb!) and go through all the clothes in our closets that we can't seem to part with...then go out for drinks. (Too much to ask for?)
I'm still not sure who this person is, but it's nice that he is less sad than previously reported.
His show isn't on in Yurp, so I've only read about him till now, and wasn't really interested in seeing the clips of him on blogs. I have been converted. Real charm. Now I'm in love.
But I'll never forgive Vivian Vance´s wiretaps of Martin Luther King.
Swoon! Richard, you were so lucky to be there and you did such a great recap. Thanks for that.
Very charming indeed. It is interesting that, given his global ban on women wearing capri pants, he references Laura Petri -- since Mary Tyler Moore was the one who popularized this iconic look for American women.
i wish i was an older gay like TG. i would so turn his frown upside down at the Townhouse. the vivian vance story is priceless.
@AndSheSaid: Not to nitpick, but Laura Petrie was rocking a pair of pedal pushers, not Capris.
@bugupit: In the spring of 1965 Time magazine reported that "Mary Tyler Moore has helped make Capri pants the biggest trend in US casual attire." [www.tvacres.com]
But if you want to be picky about the length there's always Audrey as proof that capri pants are one of the most fabulous fashion trends ever.
I love this look. It never goes out of style. So Tim Gunn can take his "rules" and kiss my capri-wearing ass.
No one but Anderson Cooper should be referred to as "The Silver Fox".
@LadyChatterley: Agreed. I've already sent Richard sternly worded letter instructing him to repeat the phrase "There is Only One Silver Fox and Anderson Cooper is His Name."
I want him to be my fun, sassy, sweet uncle.
His laughter is like a picnic of angels in my earholes.
Was there some thinly veiled swipe at Mean o´ Nina in there? I heard he started a serious catfight with her because the show took away his blog and gave it to her. So Uncle Tim has some claws!
Oh & I thought he was against cargo/capris? Like my friend from NJ so heinously sported. I would have loved for him to intervene that night.
Generally I think you have to do what you want with classics and make your own rules of personal style.
If you don't know what to do -- he is a good place to start.
Don't always agree, but love how he says what he says.
