Coinciding with the launch of a new digital edition, the Orlando Sentinel will no longer give its employees physical editions of the paper, as a cost saving measure. I guess the thinking is, "let's save one job now and worry about the hundred we'll cut next year." [via Romenesko]

They'll still be able to purchase copies of the paper in the lunchroom for the bargain-basement price of $4.99 an issue.
They'll probably wind up getting a lot of marked-up computer screens at the office. Old habits die hard.
This sounds like when DayTimer (TM) stopped providing leather-bound, 10 lb planners to their staffers.
...and when Sony stopped sending CDs to program directors.
...and publishing flaks stopped sending out review copies, suggesting the magazine editors download it to their Kindles.
I've seen the future. I don't like it.

Oy, the Slantinel...they've been running that place like it was the 1980s for the longest time. I'm sure the employees just pick up the free local weekly at the deli for their "print kicks" anyways.
