You know the Colbert Report, and how it's really successful? And how other forms of news are less popular and some are dying? CNN noticed that too! So their Headline News channel will soon be airing Not Just Another Cable News Show, a weekly program with a light take on hard news using memorable gaffes from the past week. Time.com Washington editor Ana Marie Cox, of Wonkette fame, and noted Canadian/Huffington Post contributor Rachel Sklar will be commenters. The show, whose concept is stolen from the first segment of the Daily Show and whose title is stolen from the Wayans brothers, begins April 5. [AP]

Ana Maria Cox and Rachel Sklar? But won't all the scathing humor and keen insight cause all of our cable boxes to explode with the magnitude of the awesome permeating through those fiber optic wires?
this seems kind of doomed from the start, no? i will commend you on your excellent perez hilton paint scrawl copying, though.
Didn't Fox already try this, and fail spectacularly? Someone please remind us.
Sounds like the title is actually stolen from HBO's "Not Necessarily the News," which pretty much pioneered the genre in 1983. (Although it was actually based on a British show called "Not the Nine O'Clock News.")
Not to mention "SCTV," "Weekend Update" on "SNL," "Colbert," "The Daily Show" and a little bit of "Talk Soup." But here's hoping it works out -- nothing says "funny" like CNN.
News shows on Commedy channels: Comedy shows on news channels::The Onion:The Sunday Funnies
Garfield has proven that regular News people just don't get "funny", then again maybe we'll get a plush version of Ana Marie Cox to suction to our car windows.
The Wayans brothers would have called this "I Love the Soup of The Best Daily Show Ever of the Week Not Reported by a Red Eyed Stephen Colbert"
Where do I audition?
@TedSez: And Brass Eye, which doesn't get talked about much around these parts. British fake news show.
CNN should hire Tucker Carlson to host and make him wear an elf costume, complete with a light-up bow tie. That would kill.
@TedSez: Ah, Stuart Pankin.
Where are they now?
Also? Sniglets!!
CNNiglets is original though, right?
Larry King has been doing humorous news programming for decades, people.
@DorothyMantooth: HOLY SHIT
In keeping with most of the women on CNN, I suppose they'll be tarting up Cox and Sklar to look like shellacked thirtysomething whores with bangs?
@TedSez: "Not The Nine O'Clock News" was just a sketch show, and never really lampooned news at all.
Also - I already thought CNN was a comedy news show. You mean that isn't a stand-up routine Wolf does every night? He's fucking hilarious!
Hey gang, get ready to laugh!
@In Other News...:
they did. the half hour news hour.
but their main problem was filming the pilot nearly 4 months in advance, thus making all jokes stale.
and it was fronted by canadian sketch comedy people. that was the second mistake.
I would like to see comedy take over everything because soon people will have had enough comedy. Then, I will open a Stand-Up Serious Club in my brother-in-law's basement where people will go to hear all the hot young rising serious people perform serious routines. But, I would only be running the Stand-Up Serious club as part of a hilarious complex practical joke I am playing on my brother-in-law that is really only funny to me, so I guess in the end that makes me a bit of a hypocrite.
You know what would be a great show? It would be kind of like that Mystery Science Theater thing that I know so many nerds like me enjoyed, except I only ever saw one episode because the same time I encountered it was when I was really getting into fucking. But anyway: Someone would report a news story, and then we would comment on it live, with the comments scrolling up one side of the screen. And on the other side of the screen, a girl in a swimsuit would be dancing sexy. And sometimes it could be a dude dancing, because we don't want to lose the gays and hey, I'm feeling expansive.
@mitchel_stevens: Are you talking about This Hour Has 22 Minutes? I didn't know the CBC had sent it to Fox. The early episodes of that show weren't actually half bad.
Man. I thought that's what they had AC360 for.
@moff: Throw in a monkey washing a cat, and you've got a couple of seasons right there.
@mathnet: Made up word mind meld!!!
"CNNiglets" is absolute genius!
@VirusWithShoes: Oh, Monkey Washing a Cat is on right now! You must not get G4 in Scotland.
@PimpMyCouch:
no, surprisingly.
Half hour news hour. this was the Fox version to cash in on 22 minutes.
I though CNN Headline News was some sort of parody of an actual news channel, just like CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC since they all don't seem to air any actual news.
Gee this isn't very late to the game at all.
I hope they'll make a place in their cast for Nancy Grace and Glenn Beck, the two biggest jokers on cable TV, who deserve to be listed as such.
@mitchel_stevens:
It may have been four months old, but a big segment making fun of Ed Begley Jr. is certainly timeless humor.
Canadians are being described as "noted" now? W00t! My countrymen are the new Nigel Barkers of the Internets!
@Bentpost: Ahem. I don't need any help to look like a shellacked thirtysomething whore, thanks. Though I don't have bangs.
@RachelSklar: Just between us bangless shellacked thirtysomething Canadian whores? I found your comment quite funny.
@RachelSklar: Shellac is a poor finish for thirtysomething whores as I find my beer can leaves rings on their backs. Polyurethane, on the other hand,...
@In Other News...:
Yeah, just like they've been trying that whole "news" thing, too. Will they ever learn?
The best bits on the Daily Show & Colbert are when they're making fun of CNN. Sklar & Cox are going to have a court jester problem with that: they can make fun, but not too much fun.
