- Oh, what a week. Jory went to The Black Party, which isn't what it sounds like, except sorta. If it was what it sounds like, Mr. Lou Dobbs would certainly not be invited. (He would probably not be very comfortable at the real one either.)
- Sometimes we're jealous of our friends who got out. But trust us—we spent some time away from New York, and basically ended up like the sad monkey.
- So many things made us OUTRAGED! The MySpace suicide and the rising prices at the Time Warner cafe and Wal-Mart and the state of literature today and, uh, cancer. And TMZ, which is a form of cancer.
- Heidi Montag is to John McCain what Naomi Campbell is to hurting people, or something. It's been a long week.
- Barry Diller writes email in Comic Sans and bras don't need backs anymore. It's a crazy old world, all you can do is keep singing.
- One of us kinda had a little crisis this week when a rotund young internet person "snogged", as the tabloids probably don't actually say, the big-eyed cartoon troubadour John Mayer. Maybe it was that "punking" fellow's fault?
- EVERYBODY LIKES EVERYTHING, OK?
- Oh there was some April Fool's bullshit but we're not even going to link to it.
- Emily Brill had a sad, annoying license plate. Also sad/annoying: Hipster kickball. Maybe just sad: Either Jared Kushner or Ivanka Trump.
- Ladies! Stop writing about sex. If you need attention, yell at some doctors on Larry King.
- We feel like there's some pop cultural analogue for Charles Stam but we can't think of it. Max Fischer was the son of a barber, Tracy Flick was apolitical, Ferris Beuller was basically a spoiled Republican prick but he had that Cabaret Voltaire poster... oh well. Anyway, kid doesn't like us! Good thing our new office is guarded by hired goons.
- Hah.
- Nick hung out with all of his friends at a fun party.
- Rebecca left us, all too soon.
- I quit forever! Or until Wednesday, when I return from vacation.

Goddamn Pareene, you are not even allowed to joke about quitting.
@karion: I can't tell you where I have warm and fuzzies when I see your "Goddamn Pareene"-isms.
And speaking of, where's Ian Speigelmeister?
Conbon wins TEN imaginary commies? Goddamn, Pareene, I think I had the best caption of all for the hired goons ("Say what you will, but they are totally canceling it in their area") - can you break one of his imaginary ones into little bits and sprinkle some dust on me? (Or is commie dust smokeable? Even better.)
Ian!! Hello?
@Hez: you don't know where those commies have been by now
SPIEGELMAN!!!
@BalknChain: You're right. I don't want Conbon's ass commies.
@Hez: Slightly used ass commies at that
@belltolls: I think we need to yell louder ;)
LOTR is on and Arwen just pledged her life to Aragorn. My insides are butter. *sigh*
I know, I know, I've seen it 4000 times. Liv is so pretty.
@BalknChain: This is kinda like The Honeymooners. "IAN!!! Get in here!". I really like his story angles and he writer writes. I made him the main character of my hot new screenplay The Spiegelman Weekend, but we started having creative differences when I got to page three. I was hoping we could make some progress this weekend as my day job prevented me from doing anything this week except practicing importing and exporting the same three pages in and out of Final Draft.
@belltolls: He's great isn't he? So, how creative were your differences? I just emailed him and told him we were calling him over here.
What's up with the Gawker parties?
I like Ian, too. We share a love for a certain serial killer film. It runs deep.
yay! More people!
IAN!! Where's my "I"?
Or my Ian for President button
How has everyone BEEN? I feel like I haven't been around at all. I haven't seen Un Chien around anywhere...and the last time I saw him he was feeling down. WORRIED.
@Theda_Bara: Was Un Chien, Gimme a Brake? I'm confused..
@BalknChain: Ian would be an interesting president. I would actually watch the state of the union speeches.
@BalknChain: Yeah. During the blog blog he was pretty down and then.....he just kinda stopped coming around.
@Theda_Bara: I don't know. He was down? I've been so down lately myself, I failed to notice. I hope s/he comes back. I've been enjoying my reunion with Scroll_Lock.
So what's good that we can talk about? I need YouTube for some ideas.
@BalknChain: Down? Why for?

let's dance!
I posted this elsewhere this week, but if you missed it (and you like the Muppets I think this is really cute...

@Theda_Bara: I have lost an astonishing numbe of family members this year and a few friends. 9 people since the end of last October. Just had another funeral Monday. I really hope it's over for a while. That's why there was a large time frame where I was not around. You never quite realize how depressed you are or were until you start to feel like "your old self" again. *sigh* I don't want to brng the room down.Let's Gopher dance.
@Theda_Bara: I freaking love the Muppets. Henson was, and still is, my hero!
Sarah Heartburn posted this one in recent weeks. I can't believe I had never seen it before. I laughed until I cried!!

@BalknChain: I lost both my brother and my mother before I was 21. And then the rest of my family abandoned me (except my father). So, I haven't suffered as much loss, but I can understand to some degree how it feels.
post dammit!!
@BalknChain: I love Beaker!!! You know, wearing a turtleneck he looks a little like Bill Gates. Or rather, Bill Gates looks kind of like him.
The comment eating monster arises again......
@Theda_Bara: I am very sorry for your losses. The only loss that was actually on my side was my mom's father. Losing Pop Pop hurt so badly. He is the one we lost in October. My family is small and I am not close to most of them and a lot of them have already passed on long ago. It's been my in-laws. Two of my father in law's brothers within a month. My father in law was devastated. The one uncle had the same name as my husband so we literally saw my husband's name buried. It was lke a nightmare. My poor husband almost could not deal with it. He was super close to his uncle and buried his namesake. He cried. It ripped my heart out. That was the week of 2 funerals.
@BalknChain: Oh, hon, I'm so sorry for your loss and your husband's. It must feel terrible. I hope your hubby feels better soon. Even though it will take a while to get beyond, I'm sure.
this is a must

@Theda_Bara: thank you, sorry if I brought you down. We're finally moving past it. But 8 people in under 3 months had us reeling. I even lost my coworker who sat right next to me at work. So I went to his funeral while my husband went to his friend's at the same time, same day in another town. 2008 has been wretched.
Just counting my blessings daily, as trite as it sounds
@BalknChain: I am sorry to hear off all your recent loss. I know exactly what you mean about when you start feeling your 'old self' and reflecting.
@Theda_Bara: Is that your eye in the avatar? If it is, you lucky cow! Am thinking about what body-part I could post as an avatar.
Is it wrong that we refer to a weird part of my family as 'fraggle rock'?
post!
@UnstableMabel: Yerp. That be mah eye. Thanks, I think. Ha!
@UnstableMabel: thank you, you are very kind.
I think it is wrong to not refer to some part of your family as a Fraggle. I actually have the Sideshow Dark Crystal dolls of Kira and Jen. Kira's of course has Fizgig :) I also have a slew of Muppets including Bear in the Big Blue House and Pip and Pop.
@Theda_Bara: lucky you, I have plain old brown
Whoa! What just happened there! Did y'all see the screen change drastically when you refreshed? And everything looks a little different.
I swear I've dropped no acid this evening.
@BalknChain: But you have lovely, lovely hair (if that's you in the pics) and I hate my hair.
{comment monster begone!}
@Theda_Bara: Seriously, it's lovely. You must have a great wink.
I would have to post an earlobe or something.
@BalknChain: You should never have to say sorry about talking about it. That's the sad irony of those silly rape t-shirts. Wish I could give you a big hug and make you a cuppa tea. It's afterwards that you realise how much you were actually carrying around, the weight of a building on your shoulders, and how strong you really are.
@UnstableMabel: aaw, don't make me cry *sniff* , thank you
Um, hi guys?
@In Other News...: hey!
@In Other News...: no worries, we're ok ;)
@BalknChain: @UnstableMabel: I agree. I have this special "comforting tea" with peppermint and licorice. I would fix a cup for both of you. It's wonderful.
BalknChain, you can talk about anything you want to. Whenever. No apologies necessary.
