Hey small Gawker sports fan readership, can you believe Memphis lost that game last night? Derrick Rose looked like he was scared to take it to the hole or something. Probably practicing for when he gets drafted by the Knicks. Unfortunately I had Memphis picked to win it all in my New York Times bracket. Now I'll never own that iPod. [Earlier]

But who did win it? Their life will truly never be the same.
Pfft. Basketball?! Stanley Cup Playoffs start on Wednesday! Go Habs! Woo!
Quit stealing my bylines, Hamilton! This was totally mine! I can't believe Derrick Rose did the Pamchenko!
Actually, that final 3-point shot by Mario Chalmers was amazing. Now, pass the Doritos.
@Richard: You can take the 16-part team by team NBA playoff preview series.
@PimpMyCouch: Indeed. This is shaping up to be an awesome season. I'm feeling good about my Wild.
@TedSez: Memphis should have fouled.
waves hi! (actually, I feel bad for kansas because it must suck to win but have everyone talk only about the loser)
Fucking 3 points of LUCK.
i had memphis too. what's the matter with kansas, anyway?
@fiveinchtaint: Wild? WILD?! That series is going to be boring as hell! Though I am looking forward to the Eastern matchups. I can't believe Washington made it - I love Ovechkin and his celebrations.
@Hamilton Nolan: Oh good! Which team is good at the floor routines? Uneven bars??
Wait.... Gawker readers like sports? I thought you were all gay jihadists!
@fiveinchtaint: Full disclosure: I'm actually a Canucks fan, so pardon my outburst toward your beloved Wild. Please, don't mock me. I've endured enough heartbreak already.
Basketball?
March Madness, to me, only refers to my state of mind during that month (birthday and St. Pats).
Oh shit! It's April now?
@Richard: The Utah Jazzhands.
@misssgolightly: I have varied interests.
@Richard: don't ever stop. you are too darling right now.
@PimpMyCouch: Ha - that's OK. I'm still kind of in transition from being a Stars fan. And I hope the series is a boring one, even if it's just because all the good Avs are injured.
Would, "I'm an English major" apply here?
Kansas was the deepest team in the country. other than their inability to effectively shoot the 3 ball [Memph Bleek had the same problem] they had no holes. And ended up pushing the game to OT [where they won it] with a 3 so even that hole was filled.
Kansas played a tougher schedule... no one should be surprised they won, but many are.
the NBA playoffs will be meh. the west will be competitive and there will be upsets, although with all those good teams, it's hard to even say the 8 seed beating the 1 will truly be an upset.
The East will be boring. Boston and Detroit will roll and meet up to see who will get the chance to prove the East isn't a COMPLETE joke just close to it.
Hockey, hockey, hockey. so many canadians, so little time.
I just want to see some good games and maybe that sport can climb its way back from near extinction in the US of A... maybe.
I'm still bummed Coppin State lost the NCAA play-in game.
But Ohio State won the NIT! First of the worst!
Aaaand I had UNC over UCLA. Turns out Tyler Hansbrough's not God after all. If only I had known.
Sometimes I'm "scared to take it to the hole". Does that mean I have to move to New Jersey too?
@Conbon: Memphis Grizzlies? San Antonio Spurs and Buttless Chaps? You're too good.
@PimpMyCouch: C-A-P-S! Caps! Caps! Caps! That's right, baby. The hottest team in the league is going to tear the playoffs a new one.
@DahlELama:
Yes! I missed that Tyler H. memo too: Had UNC over UCLA in both of my brackets.
@DahlELama: If Tyler Hansbrough was God, I'd promptly escort my ass to hell.
@suboptimal: Some actually consider moving to Jersey "taking it to the hole". I'm one of them.
@fiveinchtaint: I just think it'll be dull because of the Wild's trap style, and the Avalanche just...being the Avalanche. They're not as flashy. The Calgary-San Jose matchup should be good. There are so many good matchups this season that all of them have the potential to be really entertaining.
@hypocriteoath: Dude! Take your pick! Watch the Calgary-San Jose one, Dallas-Anaheim, Montreal-Boston and Washington-Carolina (i think). I guarantee you good hockey.
@Calitri: Washington made some really good moves at the deadline. I hope they go far.
@PimpMyCouch: @fiveinchtaint: @Calitri: I haz a sad. The NHL season ended on the sourest of notes for me yesterday when my Blues didn't win teh draft lotteryz. So now you can all make fun of me.
I had Oral Roberts winning the NCAA thingy. Imagine my surprise when I found out they weren't even invited.
At least nobody here picked Duke, thank god.
@Hamilton Nolan: I despise Duke and everything that it represents.
@PimpMyCouch: Montreal Boston is going to be brutal... the only good part about that series is that they are both orig 6 teams... the rest could be pretty good.
@TedSez: Laettner-esque, and I hate(d) Laettner.
@koala325: You both need to get off the ACC bandwagon. As last night proved, there's more to basketball than Dick Vitale's unnecessary obsession for a conference that's overrated on a regualar basis. Sure, Hansbrough's the real deal, but look at where he's from...Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Memphis lost because John Calipari is a dick. Really, it's that simple.
Never pick the offense-happy team to beat the defensive stalwart in a championship game. It never happens.
@digitalsmoothie: Tampa Bay had the best odds. I always thought the team with the worst record won it - the Blues did better than Tampa Bay. Small consolation?
@hypocriteoath: I'm watching them all, I don't care. If I'm not around here for a while, it's because I'm stuck to my couch, with empty beer cans and beef jerky everywhere.
@CaptainFantastic: Christian Laettner once stole my hat to show off and wouldn't give it back. True. Story.
That said, I won my brackey (and 84 import beers) Saturday night because I had picked all of the #1's. I had Memphis winning though.
@ All-the-Closeted-Gawker-Hockey-Fans:
This is one of the tightest playoff years ever no?!?! Way to go Caps! Habs v. Boston, yikes!
Hooray for Hockey, sport of Kings! (not the LA Kings though, man do they suck).
Go Rangers !!!
@htotheomo: I did the same thing and won the only pool where there was no money involved.
Mostly, I just wanted to comment on a good, red blooded hetero thread, Richard and his Houston Rockettes aside.
Go Caps. Go to hell, Hansbrough.
Orlando Magic Fingers
Milwaukee young Bucks
Cleveland Cavaliers
And lest we not forget, the 1980's Los Angeles Lakers-Showtune!
Memphis cost me a boatload of bracket bucks. I will get my revenge.
@fiveinchtaint:
I agree. I can't wait for the North Stars to win the whole thing!
Oh.
Wait.
Damn that evil Norm Green.
In the meantime, GO WILD!
@PimpMyCouch:
No amount of ca$h could make Ovechkin attractive.
Now, Mr. Gaborik on the other hand...mommy like.
@DaeSu: John Chaney should have killed that fucker when he had the chance.
Note the high comment to viewer ratio. Sports fans sure are opinionated! Does anybody else think that George Van Haltren belongs in the Baseball Hall of Fame? Make your voices heard!
@PimpMyCouch: Thanks for the consolation. The team with the worst record has the best chance of getting it but it's not guaranteed. They changed the rule after Ottawa intentionally tanked at the end of the 92-92 season in order to take Alexandre Daigle ahead of Hartford who had to, ahem, settle for Chris Pronger.
@digitalsmoothie: err, 92-93, that is.
George Van Haltren!
