In his spare time, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez enjoys shutting down entire television networks if he doesn't approve of their content. So it should come as no surprise to hear that he's banning The Simpsons. At its former timeslot of 11 a.m., the show was ruled unsuitable for children and in danger of violating the Law of Social Responsibility in Radio and Television.
"It had to be taken off," said Televen TV station spokeswoman Elba Guillen. "The government considers it to be a series that isn't appropriate for that time because it isn't appropriate for children."
Naturally, they're replacing the cartoon with Baywatch. Apparently, subjects that are suitable for children include: anorexia, plastic surgery, and unforgivable acting. To say nothing of the cast's off screen antics which includes cocaine possession, eating hamburgers off the floor while under the influence, and marrying three mediocre dudes (probably)while under the influence.
