Out 'n proud former CNN anchor and current Insider (shudder) correspondent Thomas Roberts spoke to The Advocate this month about gay dudes doing the news. Apparently there are quite a few of them running around, the obvious silver fox in the room being just one of many. And, out or not, they tend to do OK, as long as they're not looking for an evening anchor gig. A talent agent named Mendes Napoli spoke with the magazine as well, saying: "You can be a morning anchor, a weekend anchor, an afternoon anchor, a reporter — they love gay reporters now because they're so animated, they're not stiff. But a primary male anchor who's gay? It's an issue." Huh. "Animated"? What does that mean?? Are there weathermen doing Gloria Estefan routines and picking out snappy outfits for ladies? I should be watching this! Or, is "animated" how one would describe watching nighttime newsman Anderson Cooper trying to button himself up? It's all kind of unclear, but it's good to know that the gays are providing some entertainment value in those dusty old newsrooms. After the jump, just for the heck of it, Roberts on those (NSFW) nude Manhunt photos.
"I never put inappropriate pictures of myself on a public website. For me it was really hurtful, for Patrick and I it was terribly painful, and I'm sure anyone reading this will realize that what happened was something that we needed to deal with on a personal level. And we've dealt with it — we've closed the book on that issue and moved on."

Kent Brockman's gay?
I can never look at the news the same way again, now that I know someone's "doing" it.
Overly animated is what killed Rip Taylor's anchor gig.
I think it would just be fun if at the end of the news, when they put on the news music, if all the gays stood up and did a big gay dance! And like the lights all went flashy! And there were tank tops and tight jeans!
"animated" = jazz hands
@CodePink:
That would totally get me to watch network news again!
@Ruutuu: Ha!
@scroll_lock: I'd like to see Rip Taylor do the news while running up and down the aisles scattering confetti.
"for Patrick and I it was terribly painful"
Or, as we say here in English-Speaking Land, "for Patrick and me."
they love gay reporters now because they're so animated, they're not stiff.
Go on.....
Wait...so he did or didn't put nekkid pics of himself up on Manhunt? What? Was he the victim of a drive-by 'hunting? Or something?
I live in DC and go the nominally gay gym and see two national correspondents there. And Andrew Sullivan and Barney Frank (the latter, rarely, whew!). No hiding there but I guess they're down the pecking order (tee-hee, I had to add that).
@Elektra:
You can't spell 'repressed homosexuality' without an 'i.'
@lawyergay: It's all in the parsing.
ManHunt isn't entirely public - I assume registration is required - and if the purpose of the site is to hook up with potential sex partners, then there's nothing inappropriate about posting nude pictures of yourself.
For me it was really hurtful, for Patrick and I it was terribly painful, and I'm sure anyone reading this will realize that what happened was something that we needed to deal with on a personal level. = I slept on the couch for a few nights, until I promised to take him to Gran Canaria for a second honeymoon.
@valet_of_the_dolls: Gotcha...yes makes more sense now!
Maybe this is why I never managed to get to CEO. It's my karaoke coffee breaks featuring a daily tribute to a singing superstar. Today it's "Cher: the Sonny Years".
I may never get promoted, but I look damn fine in the building's cafeteria wearing my Bob Mackie gown.
@blix: And for a breaking news story he could yank off the toop and wave it around.
I'm over the Coop. Boring. It's all about CBS's Troy Roberts... Yummy in person. Saw him on a dinner date with a good-looking gay recently at Spice on 8th Ave.
Personally, I prefer my gay reporters stiff.
Thomas said in the article that he didn't post any pictures on Manhunt. The pictures didn't include the guy's head, and the only reason for thinking it was Robert's was his name attached to them. The gay blogger wrote a salacious item about them was screwing over his own.
Roberts used to be an anchor here before CNN scooped him up. He had quite a rep around town as a real gaydies man.
