The Roswell Beacon, a small paper in Georgia, ran this cover (which is not a spoof) last week to illustrate a story about how area "White Supremecy [sic] Groups" have been making threats against Barack Obama. The story itself is pretty straightforward, but the cover now has wild-eyed liberal types upset. But the Beacon's publisher has vowed to stand up to "liberal blogger thuggery"! Honestly, this one's not so bad. At least they didn't put it on an overpriced sweatshirt. Larger picture after the jump.

Oh calm down. You can't kill hope anyway.
Oh, Georgia.
Why didn't anyone threaten to kill the current president?
i don't get The South
Jesus Christ... I see they're trying to keep those good old days alive (so to speak) down in Roswell.
Why are they not going for the head shot?
@IHateNewYork: It's not aimed at his heart either.
I can't get out of this state fast enough. 6 more weeks... then it's all Decembrist concerts for me. Portland, save me!
Editorial forgot to delete "backlash" as planned.
@the_cedric: Dude.
Where's Wonkette? Seems to be down.
+ Watch video
@the_cedric: Ummmmm, he's white dude. God, that would be awwwwful, and totally unacceptable to joke about or even discuss. In fact, I think Dick Cheney is kindly suggesting we stop this thread now, lest we want a nice stay in Cuba.
@the_cedric:
Cheney (duh).
Have to love the South with their spelling errors, prejudice and poor social skills
To quote Ricky Gervais:
"It's funny because it's racist."
@the_cedric: They have.
I've got Geeorgia on my miiind ... and surveillance equipment.
@IHateNewYork & HamptonShmampton: The head and heart are too easy to miss. Most tactical snipers are taught 'centermass' targeting. However I doubt that such an individual would be tactical, so they probably should have used one of those targets for the image.
@TheHonJudgeSmails: Thank god she closed her box when she did! (allusion, not innuendo people)
@In Other News...: or is it racist because it's funny?
Michelle, seeing this are you still proud of America?
This says a lot about the area when they try to make an attempt to come off as liberal.
@sqwodaydc: Nah, it's just racist.
This reminds me that if Barack is forced to choose his closest primary competitor as his running mate, he'd be well advised to stick to the policy of his predecessor in the WH and not go hunting with his VP. Or her husband.
I'm in the last 16 hours of a business trip to Orlando, the Cracker Cote d'Azur. The other night I wound up in the whirlpool with this redneck and his girlfriend. They heard I was from New York and I got treated to a tale about the time he drove his truck to the city and saw two gay (apparent) bodybuilders walking hand in hand. He said "I was going to say something to them but it looked like they could kick my ass," and I'm saying to myself, "shut up, Michael, if you want to get out of here alive."
Wait wait wait wait wait...Obama is BLACK? How long has THIS been going on??
@Colonel Mustard: Ha! It's been going on since he found out that a woman might be elected president!
I think this newspaper just gave Obama his *Get Out of Campaigning In The South* Free Card. Super nice of them, and all.
@Mike_Jahn: Dude, I lived in Orlando. City's permanent residents are divided down the middle: The CCd'A's you speak of and the warring factions of Latinos from every possible country of the globe. Hard to fit in. They can spot an outsider, and treat everyone like an idiot tourist. I bolted after just a couple of months.
That is so creepy and so not funny. Also, what exactly are these whites so afraid of?
If any of you happen to travel to the south, be sure to visit Stone Mountain, the largest confederate war memorial. Be sure to stay for the Laser Show at night!
It's a real nice park if you can overlook the ginormous 90 foot by 190 foot carving of President Jefferson Davis and Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson.

I grew up in GA. In Conyers. It was bad.
It's usually Marietta that makes news for flaming idiocy. Poor Roswell was feeling left out.
@PaisleyPajamas: Ironically ... and I mean seriously ironically, the local TV news here is the best I've ever seen -- intelligent, calm, with actual news in it! I haven't seen one stupid thing or piece of fluff.
I suppose, when you live next to Mickey Mouse, ...
They probably decided a noose would be too much.
Thanks Geriatric Gerry Ferraro for reminding us how easy it is for Obama because he is a black man!!
That's odd, because I've been sighting White Supremacists through my rifle for years.
Yep, my anti-Supremacist movement here in this lil ole corner of rural Georgia is pretty important. We even have a mascot. His name is Slurpy and his powers will soon be revealed to the world.
