Anybody who posts something snarky about this is going to hell.
@picardia: Seconded!
This has got to be the most shocking death in a while.
WTF happened????? He wasn't even on the endangered list. What a beautiful, talented human.
@picardia:
And I'll bring the torches and pitchforks!
Condolences to Michelle and Matilda - she is only 18 months or so old..
He was only 28, CNN is reporting cardiac arrest.
R.I.P.
Holy Shit. Poor Michelle Williams and their baby.
I guess he gave the joker his all. Bound to be an incredible performance!
Guess he finally quit Jake.
Page Six is saying it was a drug overdose. Dude. I'm just so sad. He was so talented. And he was definitely going places after "Brokeback Mountain." I, too, feel horrible for his daughter.

I said something snarky...bring the pitchforks!
@picardia: I know pcardia but you gotta let people crack jokes at the wake. This is sad though.
And yet Perez Hilton? Still alive.
Did he at least finish the Batman movie or is it going to be all The Crow'd?
@tokenblackgirl: I was waiting for that!
If it helps to soften the blow, Julia Allison will be on MSNBC tonight at 9:30 pm to discuss!
of all of my Brooklyn insider info, I never heard Heath and pills. Maybe it's just an adverse reaction thing.
Ugh, such a waste. What's with beautiful young actors dying in droves all of a sudden?
I'll bet the AP didn't have an obit written for this one. (Sorry, is that snarky?)
So tragic. RIP Heath.
Think of poor Brad Renfro. Totally ruined his week. Even if they are going alphabetically, I doubt those AP obit writers made it to ells.
Rent the film "Candy" he plays a druggie with a druggie wife. He cleans up, she doesn't.
It's an Aussie film, it should be out on DvD - I think one of his best films - ever
I smell an Olsen twin...
At least for once the guy being elevated to "legend" status because he died young will deserve it! He was one of the best.
found naked and dead at an apartment owned by Mary-Kate Olsen. how bizarre, how bizarre.
The tag line to the new Batman movie is "why so serious?"
Watch your back, Lance Armstrong.
I shouldn't have, but I couldn't resist. This is sad.
@nycheartbreaker: Awww. Poor Matilda. I guess this will only reinforce the AP's new policy of readying obituaries for the 20-something set.
Really a shame. Damn either or both Olsen trolls, even if they had nothing to do with it.
@Chaim Gnadelstein: I had a similar reaction. God spares Britney but not Heath or Brad?
This is so sad. Silly to get choked up over someone I'd never met or could ever have met, but I'm a little choked up.
@The Real JR: I think he finished it. I've seen a preview for it already, so I'm thinking the actual filming is finished.
@picardia:
Why so serious?
What!!!
Holy crap! I just saw Amy Whinehouse smoking crack in some slummy apartment. But Heath Ledger is the one that died of an overdose today?
@belltolls: It's a very Australian tradition!
@whistlersbrother: God likes to fuck with people.
If you're talented and you do drugs, you OD. If you're an untalented waste of space, you keep on keepin' on.
@Chaim Gnadelstein: Heh heh heh.
BTW, Denton, I love that this was posted at 9:57 a.m. TOMORROW. Thank you for rescuing Gawker from the confines of ordinary space-time.
Maybe he's only acting dead.
When I saw the pic and headline, I thought it was the most tasteless Gawker Open Caption winner ever.
I forgot he played the suicidal son in Monster's Ball. So very sad.
Unexpected. Wow.
@strega: Seriously, "Candy" is probably his best work ever. It's on my list of movies that I'll show my kids to keep them on the straight and narrow.
@britbritbrit:
"This has got to be the most shocking death in a while."
Most shocking death of a celebrity, maybe you meant?
I made a promise to my new laptop never to have a glass of wine near it - so it wouldn't suffer the fate of my old laptop.
Tonight I broke my promise.
It's very sad. May he rest in peace.
BREAKING NEWS: We're all going the same way.
@psst: I'm never touching Ambien as long as I live.
I hear a lot of people talking about Michelle. Granted they had a very important relationship and a beautiful child together.
But what about Gemma Ward? Wasn't she actually his girlfriend at the time of his death? Anyone know how she is holding up?
Whatever the case it's incredibly sad news. And while everyone is talking about Brokeback Mountain, please make sure you check out a movie he did called Candy. It stars him and Abbie Cornish. It's really good. It's really sad though especially after this time so beware.
It's very sad. No happy ending for him. He wasn't even in my dead pool.
I read "Heath Ledger" but I wanted to read it wasn't that Heath Ledger. I'm not going to cry. We don't know why he died yet, so hold off. Brilliant actor.
I posted my thoughts on this on the previous post.
It'll probably be the last comment, as I always seem to come in at the last ("we're done with this post") minute.
RIP: I never knew you.
I don't even think that he is that good of an actor (felt "Brokeback Mountain" was highy over-rated)....but this whole thing is incredibly sad. His poor kid is going to have to grow up to all this crap. Truly depressing.
I'm so sad for him, and for Michelle and their daughter. He might have been depressed but I don't think he meant to die..
@ninety_nine: Indeed, Brad was robbed of his only shot at having... the Best Week Ever!
Paparazzi aren't all bad, as I watched the video when they wheeled out the body, I actually saw some of them do the sign of the cross after they put their camera's down.
@OhNoKatie: So, um, how many Heath Ledgers do you know of exactly?
Is the Gawker office closed today?
Did anyone see Larry King last night? After talking about the unfortunate death for a half hour he asked his lame panel (Pat O'Brien???), "So, was his fiancee an actress?" And one of them winced out a reply: "Uh, yes, she was in Brokeback Mountain with him." As if the world needed further proof of Larry's being somewhat out of touch.
If only Tom Cruise had driven by 421 Broome Street this could have turned out differently.
