"'Course, there's still obviously some collateral damage leftover from the strike — emotionally, economically, perhaps worst of all, the cancellation of the legendary Vanity Fair Oscar party. They said they did it out of, quote, respect for the writers. And um, oh! You know another way they could show respect for the writers? Uh, maybe one day invite some of them to the Vanity Fair Oscar party. They would enjoy it. They won't mingle, don't worry." Yeah, but then it wouldn't be the exclusive affair that it is. So, this is a rare instance where I agree with that doughy prick and his people.
They could put the writers in the basement of whatever venue the VF party is at, right?
That was a great moment when he said that. You hear that Bozo Carter???!

Well, there was an article about the writer's strike in the March'08 Vanity Fair that began by describing how screenwriting has always been the highest echelon of writing. Of course this is the same magazine that has Frank Rich's son getting a byline, a shill for his new book and a photograph for writing captions... so maybe they have a point.
I find the excuse wonderfully ironic, given that their magazine does not pay their writers any additional fees for Web use of their content. Apparently only screenwriters deserve that.
