"A lot of doctors smoke. I think it’s more common than people realize, particularly among young doctors. It doesn’t affect my ability to think, but I do find myself searching for words a lot more than I previously had to, and my memory is kind of hazy. I never forget patient information, though." the family guy/orgy enthusiast is funnier.
Signed,
Dr. Hook
From the article: "I once got Tracy Morgan kicked out of the AVA Lounge because I blew smoke in his direction, hoping he would come over. Instead, the bouncers thought it was him smoking and kicked him out. It sucked, but it was hilarious, too."
Oh. Boy.
This is a story? This is a given. When I had chemo, one of the nurses was moonlighting providing complementary therapies, and the doctors specifically referred to her herbal products. Doctors are big proponents of pot, for recreational OR medical uses.
Also, doctors are far more likely to take drugs for recreational purposes than are the general public. Look at the addiction rates: it's the ease of access.
that's what i've been telling my mother but she doesn't believe me
that's just great.
maybe it explains this waste of a doctors visit

This explains why my optician said my eyesight was 4/20.
*rimshot*
@Colonel Mustard: Nice.
hippocratic oath
"Don't get high on your pharmaceutical free sample supply"
@gimmeabrake: or: Do No Pharm
seriously, are there any jobs that *aren't* improved by smoking pot? i'm pretty sure my therapist is high most of the time, and i wouldn't have it any other way.
"workin' downstairs in the IC unit, one toke over the line."
"It doesn't affect my ability to think, but I do find myself searching for words a lot more than I previously had to, and my memory is kind of hazy."
Oh, so the only thinking it affects is the words part and the memory part, but the imagining part works just fine!
Speaking as someone who was high for all of 2004 and most of '05, and who has no qualms with smoking, yeah, it affects your ability to think. Sometimes in a good way, and sometimes not, but it affects it. That's the point.
i bet it actually helps relax and help destress. they probably have a lot of crap running through their head from the day.

Better weed then oxycodone. I'd rather have a doc with cool nerves and a sense of humor then someone not able to count the number of gauze they left inside me before suturing back up.
I'm an xray tech and some of the Docs and Surgeons stay hopped up. One anesthesiologist was drooling on himself during a procedure but thank god he got fired not to long after.
A friend of mine came down with a really bad cough away at school and was prescribed promethazine/codeine for it. After enjoying the scrip he goes back to the doctor and says, "Hey man..me and my friends drank the whole bottle of that shit and it was awesome." The doctor replied "Word! You do that shit too!" Gave him a permanent scrip.
there are doc's that don't smoke?
@edisdead: Well, maybe airline pilot.
@edisdead:
Data entry
Penicillin: that's always a hard word to remember. And myocardial infarction. Other than that, he's fine on his 18 hour shift...
@Colonel Mustard: gold star.
or, uhh, commie or pinko prize or whatever it is they give out these days.
@moff: What about the rest of 2005? And 2006? And 2007?
don't smoke pot. vaporize it.

much healthier.
Its TRUE! I'm a doctor and I am stoned right now.
@edisdead: My therapist specifically recommended pot as a good way to relax. "Nothing wrong with a small joint at the end of the day", he said.
I have been smoking pot now for over 5 years. No, twenty-five years. Thirteen? Anyway, in all that time, or short time, whatever, being high has never once resulted in any negative incidents with my patients. I'm not a doctor or a therapist or anything, but my record speaks for itself.
love the doctor's roach clip--so that's where all those hemastats came from!
When I was in high school and had cramps my dad would hand me some pill and vaguely tell me not to drink or drive, of course this all ended when the walgreens pharmacist caught on that he was calling in a lot of painkillers and issued a vague threat not to prescribe anymore. Now he just goes to the emergency room to relive his glory days and weasel some hydracodeine out of people. Very House, really.
What exactly does "As told to Michael Freidson, Allison Hope, Kate Lowenstein and Lauren Shopp" mean in an incoherent article about nothing in particular that is barely over 500 words?
@Kakapo: They were all sharing a bong together.
@Styxwader: My dad had to have stitches a few years ago, and the surgeon that stitched him up gave me the spare hemostat from the suture kit as a souvenir. I never thought to use it for that purpose. You learn something new every day!
Well,Mr. Cooper, it looks like from the tests that have come back...who's eating a cheeseburge? Is Shake Shack already open? Hey buddy, this is what you get with an HMO.
The weed smoking, those munchies and food paid for by big pharma. Such a vicious cycle.
No wonder they can't pay off med school.
This information doesn't make me feel any better about that colonoscopy I have scheduled next week.
