Well, Eliot Spitzer has not resigned as Governor of New York. Not yet, at least. But Fox News' report may still be accurate. The governor's statement sounds like a farewell. He begins in the past tense, and goes on to say that change is a matter of ideas, rather than individuals. That is to say, even if Spitzer's political career is over, his ideas will live on. Good luck with that. Here's the statement: "We sought to bring real change to New York, and that will continue. I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family, and violates my or any sense of right and wrong. I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public, to whom I promised better. I do not believe that politics in the long run is about individuals. It is about ideas, the public good, and doing what is best for the State of New York. I am disappointed not to live up to the standard I set for myself. I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family."

Well,

I hope he's making that face because his wife has a shiv in his back.
Okay, first Jersey --- the only thing that ever started in Jersey, BTW --- then New York, the gubernatorial sex scandal resignation. I wonder if there's a template for these resignation statements.
Ah, the far off gaze of the wronged wife/spouse, forced onstage to show support for the egomaniacal pol. What must she be thinking, in her heart of hearts?
Amazing how these women still stand by their men
@PandoraSpocks: Actually, I think she's replaying "The Princess Bride " over and over and over ...
@ext212: Xanax.
I'm disappointed that I cheated on my taxes, that I stole that money from my friend's wallet, and I am disappointed that I might be indicted for these deeds, but since I have this ability to separate my own actions from the person who actually did them, me, with the contortion of "disappointed," I shall not resign, and furthermore I hope that someone else besides me will have to serve the time for these actions that disappoint me. I will even go so far to say that I lament the behavior with which I have been associated.
@Tammany_Fall: How 'bout: "When this press conference is over I'm closing the joint checking account, making a reservation for Montserrat and calling Enrique the pool boy."
Those bedroom eyes scream cheater.
nice flag pin. standing tall there elliot
"I am not taking questions. I will report back to you shortly."
Is this some kind of dominatrix/slave speak?
Or is he just saying he has a small penis?
or "in short order?", "in shorts?"
I am obviously more shocked than his wife.
my coworker and I just got in an argument about this. She was hating on the wronged wife, saying what an idiot she is and that she wouldn't ever stand there and I said, they all do it. So maybe we don't know what it's like to be her.
Can someone explain the phenomenon of the wronged-politician's-wife, who always goes to the shaming press conference?
Anyone? Why do they go?
@dadoorunrun: Yes, that was a nice touch. Totally inadvertent.
@Michael Jahn: Use of the light bulb got started in Jersey -- Thanks to Thomas Edison . . .
@ManPurse: I have no idea why they do it, but I'm not married to a man in politics or a cheater.
@PandoraSpocks: Yeah, me neither. So hopefully I will never intimately know why they do it.
@ManPurse: for the divorce settlement of course... she stood by her man, was humiliated, thus should be adequately compensated!
then, a year or so later, she can write a bestseller stating that she knew all the time... book signings at b&n, border's etc. become a real celeb!
@ManPurse: Somebody's telling her that if she doesn't go to the press conference, she'll ruin something that's bigger than herself. She's been putting that first for years, decades, by now. And she doesn't realize how much she hates him yet.
@PoBoyNation: Plus, it's one of those clauses in the Political Wife contract, isn't it? And if there's threatened breach, it's resolved by, like, binding clandestine arbitration?
