"They are three young women practicing the 21st-century version of the oldest profession, inhabitants of the secret world of the high-priced call girl that was thrust into the spotlight last week ... they provide a glimpse into the prostitution industry, a sprawling and rapidly growing underground universe that in the last decade has almost wholly migrated online." How much longer do we have to wait for the report proving the Times got the entire Spitzer story wrong?
My favorite part was when the reporters got the quote from the GWU Professor Ron Weitzer, "an expert in the field" of whoring. I wonder how he did his research, at what stage of his academic studies he decided, "Shit! I've been spending too much time on this shit (zippping up his pants). Shit. What am I going to do now? Shit shit shit shit shit." And made this the focus of his scholarship. I'm sure his parents must be real proud.
"How's old Ronny? What is he up to these days."
Knowing too well what it'll lead to, half-mumbling, "university professor?"
"Really?! That's wonderful. What does he teach?"
Full mumbling, trying to avoid the question now. "No, I said bovine inspector.
Can you imagine this dude on Career Day in grade school?
"I want to be a fireman"
"I want to be an airplane pilot."
"I want to be a football player."
"I want to be an expert in prostitution."
God Bless America, Indeed.
So this can function as a sequel to Memories of My Melancholy Whores?
Thank you NYT for clarifying GFE. I thought it meant General Fucking Electric.
"Ms. O'Donnell, 25, is a Williamsburg hipster with entrancing blue eyes who carries an NPR tote bag and might offer up a few pleasantries on the Whole Foods checkout line before turning back to her Junot Diaz novel."
Yech.
I love how everyone one is all, "It's exciting and fun!" Yet they're paranoid about psycho clients and most get beat up once or twice a year. Wow. That's every little girl's dream! Trips to Europe! Expensive clothes! Rapes and beatings! Yea!!!!
Great job, Times!
I remember the days when people involved with scandals like this had the good taste to simply disappear when it was all over.
Oh wait, no I don't. I heard they were nice though.
""It's like any other job," she said. "You have your good days and bad days." Clients can be disrespectful, ignore predetermined boundaries and overlook their own hygiene."
That's like my job! My boss yells at me a lot and totally has coffee breath. Wow, hookers really are just like us!
"It would be great," she sighed, "if what I'm doing weren't illegal."
hey, a girl can dream right?
