"Cablevision is preparing a $650 million offer for Newsday, $70 million more than bids by Rupert Murdoch and Mortimer B. Zuckerman... Executives... interested in Newsday said they learned over the last month that printing, trucking and subscription operations were more troubled and inefficient than they knew. Paradoxically, that has persuaded them that the paper was worth more... 'These are problems that can be fixed, so there’s a lot of room for improvement,' one executive said." [Times]

Finally someone steps up -- Zuckerman versus Murdoch is a difference without a distinction...
If Rupert loses Long Island, then is it possible that those other two islands with funny accents--England and Australia--will also slip from his grasp? Will that mean that the terrorists have won?
The Dolans are everybody's favorite employer/bidder: no matter what the industry, they always overpay. The losers will be the Newsday employees, once the paper goes the way of the Wiz.
@donmiguel: There is a big distinction. One paper (the Post) lies and makes things up. The other (the News) doesn't and is still held accountable.
