'The Empire Strikes Barack'

Picture 2-10Here is the only pro-Barack Obama (or pro-anyone, really) YouTube video that I've been able to sit through in its entirety. But, then again, I'll sit through pretty much anything involving Star Wars. Because Star Wars is the greatest thing ever. Period.

  • Ian, your video finds makes having to work on Saturdays a little bit better.

But I am kind of over the Obama support videos. The people that makes are not so much making them to support him than to show that they are fucking cool they are and know how to use Final Cut Pro.

The Star Wars mythology is a fantasy that essentially says, "Our side is good, and your side is (by definition) entirely evil. Negotiations are only an excuse for you to gain more power. The only way for good to triumph is for us to destroy you completely, before you have a chance to destroy us."

I think that one of the things Obama's supporters like about him is that he doesn't subscribe to that kind of worldview.

  • @TedSez: I think he kind of wishes he had that worldview, since their goal at the beginning seemed to "beat her then keep her off the ticket." The Force has not been with him recently.

@TedSez: I think you are great, but OF COURSE this is his world view. Or else he is fucking idiot. Is he just planning to talk Republicans into universal health care coverage?

  • So? Obama's wife is really his twin sister?

@Steverino: Actually, he had a rough week, but someone at the Times crunched a bunch of numbers, rather than just listening to the news-media narrative, and it looks like he's doing fine.

@Helman: No, I think his worldview isn't that he's planning on talking Republican politicians into universal health care himself, but that he wants to come up with a workable plan* and amass the popular support behind it for it to become a reality. He has been very consistent with the message that if people want something, they need to involve themselves instead of counting on the government to magically take care of it.

*Whether he, or anyone, can devise a workable plan under present economic conditions is of course not appreciably certain.

@TedSez: In fairness to the Rebel Alliance, the Sith are not big on negotiating.

@moff: You're killing me, Moff. Just promise me one thing: if Obama loses to McCain, you won't blame Clinton. You owe me that much.

@moff: Luckily, they have the disadvantage of being fictional.

  • Even though I'm at a place where frankly I stopped carrying which way it goes (in a good way!) I am still upset about some of the dumb attacks on Hillary echoed in this video.

    a) They're some sort of Evil Empire, and Hillary shouldn't be President b/c she was a First Lady (or Wouldn't be otherwise). Though if you look through out the world a large percentage of National Governmnet's first female head of state/gov were either the Daughters or Wives of people who previously held the position (not even counting Monarchy).

    b) The Clintons are rich. Well, yeah wether Obama gets the Presidency or not I predict he'll still have a large sum of money in the bank by the time he hits his 60s.

The point that she's a bit of a manipulative bitch (in a good way!) still stands though.

  • Clinton shot first.

  • Any propaganda involving lightsabers and 50cent is good by me.

Plus I never tire of the "cant stand da heat get out da kitchen" cliche.

Oh lordy. For serious? Is that my Bill as Lord Palpatine???
You'd think we didn't have truly evil people around to call the Empire. Except for Bush, Cheney and all the other crazy ass motherfucking wingnut assholes.

    Perspective, young ObamaChangersandHopers. PERSPECTIVE.

Go 'head. I'll wait here while you get some.

  • @SinisterRouge: Speaking of perspective - it's a YouTube video. A You. Tube. video. That was not made at an ObamaChangersandHopers Secret Meeting and Study Group but rather on some dude's Mac in some dude's over-priced condo in between bites of Whole Foods guacamole and sips of riesling while rocking some kind of organic cotton performance wear. I'm guessing.

But he's right about Bill Clinton. He is a Sith Lord.

  • @SinisterRouge: Born on the planet Naboo 82 years before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), he is a key politician in the Republic who claims to represent peace and democracy. In reality, Palpatine is Darth Sidious, a powerful lord of the evil Sith sect who practices the dark side of the Force. He initiates and manipulates the Clone Wars to destroy the Jedi and usher in the totalitarian Galactic Empire. Palpatine's Sith apprentices include Darth Maul, Count Dooku, and Darth Vader.

  • @TedSez: Actually, not to get all uber-nerd but (mm-HAY) -- aren't the flicks more about how, in fact, the ultimate evil can be redeemed and party as a ghost with muppets via love for his son?

    Well. My reading, anyway.

That, and hot-hot brother-sister action. And gay robots. Etc.

  • Oh, Ian, that was delightful!

Let's not take this too seriously, folks. Come on, it was fun. Hill has Tina Fey, let Obama have some light sabers, will ya?

I must say, seeing Howard Dean throttled by mind control was vaguely satisfying. I'm all for homemade Youtube videos that feature random Wookie approval (as I would, assume, Moff).

And Lincoln as Obi-Wan?! That made my weekend, Spiegs.

  • Image of SinisterRouge SinisterRouge at 07:32 PM on 05/03/08 *

@ambitious: True. I just love my Bill so much.

  • @Priam: Good Catch!

This video is awesome. That is all.

  • @ByTheWhiskersOfKurviTasch:
    Or, was shot at first.

  • Yet somehow, the Republicans won.

  • @moff: frank rich in sunday's times came out and published the hate of mccain's rev hagee ... it's totally extreme and crazy stuff ... i hope it's hung around mccain's neck like a stinking albatross

  • Ian, the Force is with you.
