Hey, look, Matt Drudge did something nice for the entire country: He ended the Democratic primary, even though it was supposed to continue until eternity. See the picture and headline at left, which ran atop Drudge Report tonight. Drudge's link went to a video of Meet The Press anchor Tim Russert calmly explaining to America that "we now know who the Democratic nominee is going to be" and that Hillary Clinton is probably about to quit (she cancelled her TV appearances and everything!). Then David Gergen, the Bill Clinton aide turned talking head, said on CNN the election is over, partly because Chelsea looked sad during Hillary's last speech. "You could see the anguish on her face," Gergen said. "I think the Clinton people know the game is almost up." Remaining voters, politely thank your media overlords for deciding the election on your behalf. Clips of Russert and Gergen, and a bigger pic of the Drudge page, after the jump.

Now, Michelle Obama has her second reason ever to be proud of the country that made her husband and her possible.
God, yes, please let Clinton have a moment of clarity and insight and get out of the way. The Democrats need to toss that dead weight off so they can get the campaign going. I'm looking forward to the first Obama-McCain debate.
@VoxPopuli: I'd like to believe she's capable of that sort of clarity and insight, but...
YAY. Although I would've loved to have seen how they planned to resolve the whole "Lady President" question. First Husband?
Fools. North Carolina doesn't count, 'cos Hillary didn't win there, duh.
Marcellus Wallace is also calling it for Obama:

@Jay Smooth: This is incredible.
go away hillary
these are words i never thought i'd say: thank you, drudge
seriously, it's ***been*** over and the msm has been dragging it out
I guess she'll really be doing shooters now.
The Washington Post has an anonymous Clinton aide quoted as saying "We lost this in February."
Well, glad to know this all wasn't for nothing after all.
I blame the vast conspiracy of dirty caucus sympathizers.
Living in Australasia I really wish I could vote in the US election and I'm following it more closely than I follow my own. I think this is a feeling probably shared by most of the world.
And, I have to admit, I'm loving it.
Obama 08 = Kerry 2.0
Excellent... just in time for Swiftboat season!
@UnstableMabel: You worked in a prison hospital and live in Australasia? You become more interesting by the minute, Mabel.
@SlickaNicka: It aint all glamour, Nicka.
@UnstableMabel: Amen. As an onlooker, it never ceases to astound me how nail-biting and damn epic the narratives are which spill off the American political stage. This primary season has been dramatized to a degree not realistically imaginable anywhere else.
The world's watching intently. And judging by popular sentiment here, I honestly think Obama could carry Europe.
@ByOsmosis: It's very interesting times.
Excellent choice in avatar by the way.
Yeah what the fuck, she won Indiana where she was like 10 pts behind a week ago and North Carolina was always solid for Obama... if anything this is a big win for Clinton
Actually, Obama had this thing sewn up a couple of months ago, but the media has been pretending otherwise. They must have all held a meeting this morning and decided that today was the day they finally had to give up and stop bullshitting everybody about Hillary's chances.
Since when does Tim Russert get to make these decisions? I thought that was the Supreme Court's job!
@4Cats: i'm still trying to detect the sarcasm in there. help me out.
@bess marvin, girl detective: No seriously, she was behind in Indiana before the PA primary and was 20% behind in NC. Not a decisive win for Clinton but hardly a knockout blow for Obama. She won 60%+ of white democrats in either state. Obama won 90 and 91% of the AA vote in either state, 61%, 66% self-identifying as 'very liberal'... electability is kind of a gross concept but it at least worth considering...
@4Cats: Some polls showed her behind in Indiana; others did not:
[www.huffingtonpost.com]
But anyway, Obama didn't need to deliver a knockout blow, because the numbers are already on his side. She needed to show she was still running strong, and I'm sorry, but at the end of the day, a 14-point loss and a 2-point win doesn't do that, no matter what the polls said before the vote happened. And as far as electability goes, the Democratic candidate needs the black vote to carry the general election; one of the nominees has it locked down, and one of them runs a significant risk, I think, of a lot of black voters deciding to sit this one out.
My biggest problem with this is that it does nothing but give the Clinton campaign new found strength and resolve in some ways I think the MSM knows this so they can see her continue to prove them wrong.
It also charges up people that support Hillary by making damn certain that she wins.
If anything this DIDN'T need to happen. Just let Obama win on his own and if Hillary wants to drop out let it be because Bill tells her to stop or someone like Al Gore tells her to give it up. She'll only use the MSM to tell her voters that she's not going to give up without a fight just because the press thinks she should give up.
Sorry Tim and Drudge, you've just stoked the fire of the Clintons.
@Jay Smooth:
WOW!!!!! One word: AWESOME!!!!
I love when she smiles when he hands out the money and then it transitions into a close-up and laugh with her just about to say something and then cut to black. A masterpiece. I wish Bill Mahr's season didn't end last week. This would've been great to see on his show uncensored.
Yeah, the media said the Patriots couldn't be beat either! Bwahahaha!
Anyway, Hillary knows that Obama can't beat McCain in the Fall. That's why she's still in it FTW.
Never, EVER put a pic of Tim Russert in a story. Now my retinas will be bleeding all damn day!
I no can haz mee lesbeen prezuhdent?
I'd love to hear Hillary's camp in late November, "But we only lost the presidency by 5 points, since we were behind McCain in polling for weeks, this is a win!!!"
At the end of the day, who STILL has more of the pledged delegates? Popular vote? States won? Momentum with the Super-delegates?
Now who is the electable one?
I'm glad to see that somebody finally found a use for the Drudge Report--other than Prince Harry, that is.
