Goldman Sachs has been accused in recent weeks of plotting to make a fortune from the collapse of the American economy and then plotting with Washington insiders to hand the banking industry a massive bailout. Are Goldman haters now plotting against the firm's CEO, Lloyd Blankfein, and his wife Laura? A day after it was reported the banking chief had instructed Goldman employees to play it cool comes this doozy about Laura Blankfein's alleged antics in the Hamptons last weekend:
Laura Blankfein and her friend Susan Friedman, wife of another Goldman honcho, Richard Friedman, caused a huge scene at Super Saturday in the Hamptons last weekend when they arrived at the event before the noon start time and balked at waiting in line with the other ticket-holders.
"Their behavior was obnoxious. They were screaming," said one witness. Blankfein said she wouldn't wait with "people who spend less money than me."
Another observer said the women were so impatient, it was as if they were waiting on line for a kidney transplant instead of a charitable designer clothing sale. Friedman shouted at the event organizer, "You have lost so much money because of this... Why should we be treated like the $650 donors?"
We're going to give Mrs. Blankfein a pass here, if only because this is the first time we've heard of the former corporate lawyer acting out like this. Kathy Fuld, the wife of former Lehman CEO Dick Fuld, who also appears in the Post today for "looking as if she had not a care in the world" while shopping in Sun Valley? That just cannot stand. Not a chance.
