Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced today that Ted Kennedy's cancer is in remission and he will return to work in the Senate in short order.

Kennedy has been under radiation and chemotherapy treatment for malignant glioma, a form of brain cancer, for the past year. Reid told reporters this afternoon that after one more round of treatment next week, Kennedy will come back to work, where he is expected to guide health care legislation this summer.

Kennedy's form of cancer is particularly lethal. According to the Washington Post, two-year survival rates for people over 45 range from 2% to 16%, depending on the particulars of the disease. For Kennedy to beat it to the point where it's in remission is a rare instance of good news for the Kennedy family.
