Voted the most hated player in the league by his peers, hockey forward Sean Avery is well known as one of the most controversial and aggressive figures in the NHL.
Avery has played for a slew of teams during his career, starting in 1999 with the Detroit Red Wings. He has since played with the LA Kings, NY Rangers, Dallas Stars, and he most recently signed to New York's affiliate team: The Connecticut Whale. His career highlights include leading the league in penalty minutes, and prompting new rules for sportsmanlike conduct.
During a press conference on December 2, 2008, Avery famously called ex-girlfriend Elisha Cuthbert, who was dating defenseman Dion Phaneuf, his "sloppy seconds." (Oops.) At the time, he was suspended indefinitely from the NHL, unanimously dissed by his teammates and fans, and eventually dropped from the Stars before his subsequent return to the Rangers.
When he's not terrorizing hockey, Avery has been an intern at Vogue magazine, made cameos in various films, and co-owns the sport's bar Warren 77 in Manhattan.
