Valero was a big punching lightweight with an undefeated record—27 wins, 27 knockouts. He'd already been mentioned as a possible opponent for Manny Pacquiao, which would have netted him millions of dollars. He had a huge tattoo of Hugo Chavez and the Venezuelan flag on his chest. His future in boxing was incredibly bright. But he had been accused of domestic violence in the past. And then yesterday:
Venezuelan Federal Police Chief Wilmer Flores said Valero was arrested after police found the body of his 20-year-old wife in a hotel in Valencia. Valero left the hotel room around dawn on Sunday and allegedly told security that he had killed Jennifer Viera, Flores said.
Flores told state television that police found three stab wounds on Viera's body.
That was shocking enough. But this morning, the police told reporters that Valero "used his own clothes to hang himself in his cell early Monday." And just like that, it's over. Jesus.
