Apparently iconic eighties musician Adam Ant has been sectioned under Britain's Mental Health Act, kind of like the time the hospital put a mental health hold on Britney Spears. The news comes after Adam Ant's curse-strewn stage rant against Christians.
That message doesn't sound so crazy to me (signaling a mean spirit, perhaps, but not mentally illness) but apparently it was part of a string of "troubled public appearances." He was also sectioned in 2003, when he threatened to attack his neighbor and was found naked in said neighbor's basement; and in 2002 he escaped a prison sentence for threatening people with a gun because he was found mentally incompetent. So, a new sectioning is not outside the realm of possibilities. Music blog TMF posted an apparent message from Ant to his fans:
Ant fans - please send me postcards at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Fulham Road. Please don't come down here as it may upset the staff who have been really pleasant. I am having a well earned rest at Her Majesty's Pleasure and am painting and continuing being an art student. I have a great view and am considering gigs later in the year.
The main reporting on Adam Ant's hospitalization—which is rapidly being repeated elsewhere on the web—comes from The Daily Mail and The Sun, so it isn't necessarily true. [DailyMail, Sun, TMF, NYDN. Image of Adam Ant at Malcolm McLaren's funeral via Getty]
