Man Calls 911 for Ride to Liquor Store

If you're too drunk to drive, it's a good idea to call a friend for a ride. It's not a good idea to call 911. Three times. For a ride to the liquor store.

All 57-year-old Floridian George McMurrain wanted to do was go on a beer run! But he was too wasted to drive (we've all been there, right?). And, somewhere in his mind, he'd gotten the impression that the sheriff had promised him a ride. So he dialed her number (911, duh) to get her to come pick him up. It didn't really go so well:

Dispatcher: This is 911.
Suspect: I need a, I need a — a ride.
Dispatcher: You need a ride?
Suspect: Yes, to the liquor store.
Dispatcher: Um.
Suspect: Sheriff said she'd give me a ride.
Dispatcher: OK, you're going to have to call somebody else, sir. You called 911. We can't come give you a ride.
Suspect: Even the sheriff said she'd give me a ride.
Dispatcher: The sheriff said they'd give you a ride to the liquor store?
Suspect: That's correct.
Dispatcher: Wrong.

McMurrain tried to reach the sheriff via 911 three times, and was rebuffed on each try. And as if that wasn't rude enough: They arrested him! What happened to the good old days, when 911 dispatchers were courteous and sheriffs would give you a ride to the liquor store any time you needed one?
