This season of True Blood has been hit or miss—did the finale make up for the lackluster season? Last night's finale had good moments boring moments, and a more than a few WTF moments—just like the rest.

Things started off predictably, with Sookie coming and preventing Eric from meeting the true death. Did anybody actually think he would die?

Turns out Sookie's "powers" aren't much of a fluke after all. I liked Sookie better when she could just hear minds and it was ruining her life. It was fine when she had moments of her "powers", when she was in danger. But this season has taken her fairy blood thing to a level that I hate. Why is she suddenly so in tune with her gifts now? What's changed so much for her in the past season (which is really just a few weeks)? Now all it takes is some asshole vamp to scream at her, and a flash of light shoots from her hand. Lame.

In other news, Jason got put in charge of the Hotshot inbred hicks.

Why on earth would anyone put Jason in charge on anything? Sure he's pretty, but he is a dumbshit. I wouldn't leave him in charge of my goldfish, let alone my family/compound.

Remember the Wiccan who tried to give Arlene a magic abortion? Well, looks like she isn't the only witch in town.

That's right, Jesus is proof that witches are here to stay in the True Blood mythos. I'm so disappointed, it's just so cliche to have all these supernatural things. The vamps were cool, the shifters were interesting, but witches? Now it's getting to the point where you have to ask, how are all these things secret? Seems like every other person knows about the crazy supernatural shit.

True Blood is also forcing us to ask the question, "Why the fuck didn't you just kill him?" Russell Edgington, after spending the episode looking like a burnt hot dog, ended up buried alive in cement.

Maybe I'm cynical, but he's totally going to show up again and fuck up everyone's life. Eric went soft after seeing the ghost of his maker. And then he disobeyed him anyway by burying Edgington alive. If you're going to piss off the ghost of your creator, at least go all the way with it, don't half-ass your disobedience.

I really thought we could get through an episode of True Blood without big Sookie/Bill drama. That was wishful thinking on my part.

For once, I'm siding with Sookie. Bill totally played her (especially by letting her get beaten up), and she has every reason to be upset. That being said, I thought she knew Bill came to Bon Temps because of the queen. Or maybe I inferred that, and Sookie was too dense to connect any dots between Bill, the Queen, and her. I mean, how did that thought not cross her mind?

Where does a part-fairy go when they get their heart broken?

If you read the books, you know. And as I am one of those people, I must excuse myself from speculation on this "cliffhanger".

I love when finales pull out jaw-dropping cliffhangers. Car crashes, shootings, island moving - those are cliffhangers. But Sookie vanishing quietly in a flash of light? That isn't shocking (or particularly interesting). I've read the fourth book in the series, and let me tell you, there were prime opportunities for the writers to do a great ending.

I'm not giving up on True Blood yet. The series has followed the Sookie Stackhouse books relatively faithfully, and I have a feeling the fourth season will be a lot like the fourth book. I can already see that with the Hotshot folks and witches. The fourth book is my favorite, so hopefully the writers take some cues from that.
