John Galliano's Final Collection for Dior

Even though head designer John Galliano was fired for an anti-Semitic tirade earlier this week, Dior still had to show its fall/winter collection at Paris Fashion Week today. CEO Sidney Toledano addressed the crowd before the presentation, saying, "What has happened over the last week has been a terrible and wrenching ordeal for us all. It has been deeply painful to see the Dior name associated with the disgraceful statements attributed to its designer. However brilliant he may be."

And the clothes, well, they were pretty brilliant. Gauzy dresses, pleats, ruffles, fur accents, wonderful throwbacks to the 1920s, and a very dramatic ensemble that looked like fashion Musketeers all graced the runway. Instead of the traditional splashy bow Galliano usually takes, the employees of the house came out in white lab coats for a round of applause.

The scandal didn't keep away the crowds—or Vogue editrix Anna Wintour—and with such wonderful vision, let's hope that Galliano can eventually get his demons under control and bring us some more spectacle. [Image via Getty]
