The BBC show Bizarre ER featured a college student named Holly whose jaw got dislocated after a very vigorous yawn. While being stuck with your mouth agape is pretty horrifying, you'll never believe how doctors got it closed.
The physician stuffs Holly's mouth full of tongue depressors until her jaw muscles got tired, then pops her jaw back into place. That's like some sort of third world treatment! Shouldn't they have done a CAT scan or PET scan or MRI or one of those other tests that Americans make you undergo at the hospital? Isn't there an arthroscopic solution to this problem? Couldn't they have used a laser or something? No, this is the UK and they have universal health care. You see, America, this is what will happen if health insurance is socialized—the only treatment you'll get will involve Popsicle sticks. [BuzzFeed]
