Google's coddled engineers better start hustling and finding new customers—starting with friends and family—new CEO Larry Page is telling the troops. First prize is an extra 25 percent bonus.
Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is, you're fired.
"When we release products, try them and encourage your family and friends to do the same," Page told the troops. "This is a joint effort so it's important that we all get behind it."
Page went on to say, effectively, that employee bonuses will rise or fall 25 percent based on how well Google's badly underperforming social networks do in 2011. And remember: The complimentary on-site massages are for closers.
