Crowdsourced Hunt for Stolen Laptop Leads to Arrest

That was quick. Just yesterday, Joshua Kaufman posted covertly-taken pictures of the guy who had his stolen laptop to Tumblr. Looks like cops have arrested the potential thief.

Kaufman launched thisguyhasmymacbook.tumblr.com to post pictures of the guy who had his stolen laptop that were being secretly taken with the anti-theft application Hidden. Just a few hours later, at 8pm pacific time, Kaufman added this update:

An Oakland police officer just called me to let me know that they arrested the guy in my photos! BOOYA! The police used my evidence (email which pointed to a cab service) that he was a driver and tricked him into picking them up. Nice work OPD!

The police have the man and Kaufman's laptop in custody. More than some hive mind detective work, this seems to be the result of Oakland police seeing all the media coverage of Kaufman's stunt. This guy's going to be really freaked out when he reads Kaufman's blog.
