Old grifting fundie fartsack Pat Robertson is getting tired of saying it over, and over, and over again, whenever some gay stuff comes up in the news, so please pay attention this time: The more gay couples are allowed to pick up marriage certificates at the court house and file their taxes jointly, the more likely it is that America's Christian God will destroy our civilization in a fit of rage. Thanks for nothing, Andy Cuomo.
Here's the televangelist going through the motions on today's episode of the 700 Club. As usual, fantasy stories involving magical powers written by stupid people thousands of years ago serve as the literal historical foundation for Robertson's argument:
I think we need to remember the term sodomy came from a town known as Sodom and Sodom was destroyed by God Almighty and the thing that they practiced was homosexual activity and even they tried to rape angels who came down there, so that's the kind of people they were. But beyond that, Jesus when He spoke of Sodom He didn't say anything about the homosexuality he talked about just the fact that business was as usual until God decided to destroy it. And He sent an angel down there and He said to Lot and his family, ‘get out now because I'm gonna destroy this whole area.' That's where sodomy came from, we use the term sodomy and it means Sodom. What's it like? We're heading that way as a nation. In history there's never been a civilization ever in history that has embraced homosexuality and turned away from traditional fidelity, traditional marriage, traditional child-rearing, and has survived. There isn't one single civilization that has survived that openly embraced homosexuality. So you say, "what's going to happen to America?" Well if history is any guide, the same thing's going to happen to us.
Yep, that's God's voice alright. "I'm gonna destroy this whole area." He wanted to put in some new condos but was having trouble getting the permits, according to Luke 11:12 or Leviticus 69 or whatever.
Here's what's so annoying about this, aside from its incredibly repellent and offensive content: He's obviously right that America will totally collapse at any minute. This is not arguable; we're done. But it's because they built too many houses a few years back in places like Arizona and Vegas, not because gays now can get married in several states. And yet whenever the moment of collapse comes, Pat Robertson will go around claiming that he was right! Please, people, don't share any post-apocalyptic hobo beans with this man if he shows up at your tent colony.
