Kanye's Debut Fashion Line Met With Resounding 'Meh'S

Kanye West, whose blood, at this point, has almost entirely been replaced with cocaine, has decided that, in addition to releasing embarrassing rap albums every year, he will design women's clothing. He debuted his first collection, Dw Kanye West, in Paris yesterday. No one was very enthusiastic.

"Stick to the day job, Kanye," says The Daily Telegraph's Lisa Armstrong, who called the show "stupendous." No, sorry, that's wrong, she called it a "stupendously vacuous enterprise." (The Wall Street Journal's Christina Binkley went with the "day job" line too—her piece is called "Good Thing Kanye West Has a Day Job.") Women's Wear Daily was sort of vaguely kind: "[T]he collection turned out to be neither triumph nor train wreck... It had the earnest veneer of a beginner, which was sort of endearing." ("Dw Kanye West: Sort of Endearing"!) And The New York Times, too, searched for the silver lining: "There was one good-looking pair of color-blocked pants in blue and coral, but it was obvious that most of the clothes suffered from a poor fit." ("Dw Kanye West: One Good-Looking Pair of Pants"!)

There was a positive review, from the AP: "West proved nay-sayers wrong with his slick collection of sexy, hard-edged looks that were hands-down better - in terms of design and construction - than much of what's been shown during the first five days of Paris' spring-summer 2012 ready-to-wear collections." Looking at the photos, though? We have to say we're feeling pretty "meh" about Dw Kanye West too.
